Today in 1495, Perkin Warbeck, the pretender to the throne who claimed he was one of the fabled “Princes in the Tower,” was proclaimed Richard IV by the Scottish court. Of course, this was after he had already failed miserably in his attempt to invade England. By the following September, James IV of Scotland would step back from his support of Warbeck and Perkin Warbeck’s days would be numbered.
