The Tamer Tamed

Were there plays in the same time period as The Taming of the Shrew created that had stronger female characters, one’s [sic] that refused to be domesticated?

What would happen in the roles of gender were reversed?

If the roles were reversed and Shakespeare had written a play about a woman taming a man, how do you think the audience of Shakespeare’s day would have reacted to that? For example, if it had been Katharina starving Petruchio, would that be considered “comical” or more absurd?
