1569 The First Lottery

Today in 1569, the first English Lottery was drawn. Celebrate by shouting out “We’re going to Vegas baby!” wherever you are right now. State Lottery Prizes 1567.jpg

The money was to be raised for the “reparation of the havens and strength of the Realme, and towards such other publique good workes.”
