Today in 1826, Macbeth was first performed in Montreal – at least, according to my research it was first performed in Montreal (Ripley). I mean, it may have been performed before then, but I don’t know. Apparently, part of the reason that the theatre failed was because it wasn’t heated. In Canada, a building that isn’t heated in the winter is a building that no one goes into.

I don’t have a film of it, so here’s a film of Patrick Stewart as Macbeth.

Research as in: Ripley, John. “Shakespeare on the Montreal Stage 1805-1826” Theatre Research in Canada/Recherches Theatrales au Canada. 3.1 (Spring 1982).
